Incentia Announces ECOCraft-Power New Packages for Multi-mode Multi-corner Post-layout Leakage Power Reduction

Configurations of 4-corner, 8-corner, 16-corner and above to perform multi-mode multi-corner ECO simultaneously

SANTA CLARA, California, USA - June 10, 2010 - Incentia Design Systems, Inc., a technology leader in timing analysis and design closure solutions, today announced the availability of new packages to its ECOCraft-Power design closure software to perform leakage power ECO under multi-mode multi-corner (MMMC) simultaneously. ECOCraft-Power aggressively reduces leakage power at post-layout stage using intelligent swapping of multi-threshold cells. An average of 20% leakage power can be further reduced from already optimized designs after P&R, or up to 90% leakage power can be reduced from designs without leakage power optimization, while keeping setup times intact. The new packages include flexible configurations from 4-corner to 16-corner and above, and provide a most cost effective way to achieve faster design closure under MMMC.

Due to process variations and signal integrity issues, more corners need to be considered for nanometer designs. Leakage power reduction, considering MMMC and signal integrity while preserving timing without layout changes at ECO stage, is a complicated problem. Most stand alone or in-house ECO solutions provide the ECO function without a built-in timing engine. They rely heavily on interfaces to and from a third party static timing analysis tool. Inefficiency is unavoidable due to the lengthy communications between files containing large amounts of data. It is also difficult to expand these solutions to consider MMMC simultaneously. Even if the MMMC expansion can be realized, the solution is costly because multiple third party tool licenses are required. ECOCraft-Power performs the ECO, timing, and signal integrity analysis seamlessly within a single tool environment to eliminate inefficiency. A 10X speedup can be easily achieved. Furthermore, by using high-threshold library cells to reduce leakage power, hold time violations can also be reduced. ECOCraft-Power with MMMC thus provides multiple benefits including improved quality, faster design closure, and lower cost.

The latest ECOCraft-Power version adds new features to support MMMC flexibility. For example, several MMMC jobs can be grouped together and submitted to a single machine and run sequentially. To handle big designs, fast machines with big memory capacity are required. ECOCaft with MMMC can significantly reduce the number of big machines and reduce machine costs. Each MMMC job can also be associated with a priority so that a time-consuming job can be run first without waiting in the queue.

"ECOCraft-Power has been used at various customer sites and has successfully taped out numerous designs from 5M to 30M gates,ˇ¨ said Arthur Wei, vice president of operations at Incentia. ˇ§With the new packages of flexible corner configurations, customers can choose what they need based on their design flow and tool budget. This is indeed a win-win solution for both customers and us."
